Long time NOW member Bonnie Brown passed away on October 17, 2014. Central Oregon Coast NOW sends its deepest condolences to her family.
Bonnie was born November 2, 1935, to Don and Fern (Estabrook) Brown in Seattle, WA. She grew up on Whidbey Island, building rafts and floating on the bay with her older sister Flora (Catherine). The sisters attended Holy Names Academy in Seattle. After graduating in 1953, Bonnie entered the convent, taking the name Sr. Mary Consilia. After several years Bonnie left the convent to attend Cal Berkeley. She was a dedicated teacher at James Madison Junior High School in Oakland for most of her teaching career. In 2003 she moved to Newport, OR, to be near family. Bonnie passed away on October 17, 2014.
Bonnie is survived by her sister Catherine Schonau; cousin Joan Starr; nieces and nephews Kath, Mark, Carol, and Mike, along with too many grand and great nephews and nieces to count!! Her niece Leslie preceded her in death.
A sincere thank you to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital and Hospice for the excellent care they gave Bonnie over the past 11 years, especially Dr. Long and Dr. Hale, who respected Bonnie’s decision on how she wanted to live life and to Irwin and Lola, RN’s in ICU, who along with exceptional nursing care became like family to Bonnie.
A family service will take place at Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery and a special celebration of life will be held with her Aging Wisely caregivers to thank them for their professional and compassionate care.
