Learn How You Can Get Appointed to a Board or Commission

All are invited to attend a forum on getting involved as a representative for your community at the city, county, and state level. The training will take place at the Community Room, Oregon Coast Community College – Newport Campus, 400 SE College Way, Newport, OR 97366 on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm.

Board and commission appointments can run the spectrum – some appointments are paid positions, others are bimonthly meetings, and some meet just a few times a year. All are equally important in creating leadership pipelines, especially for women and people of color, and for connecting people who are interested in becoming civically involved in their communities. Even if you don’t think this is the right time for you to serve, this forum is a great opportunity to learn more about the broad range of boards and commissions that exist at the state, county and city level.

The forum is structured to be an informational and networking session. Attendees may bring copies of their resumes (not required), There will be the opportunity to speak directly to those who make appointments at the event.  Panel members will be:  Mary Moller, Director of Appointments for Governor Kate Brown; Spencer Nebel, City Manager of Newport; and Casey Miller, Public Information Officer for Lincoln County.  Moderating the forum will be Sunny Petit, former Executive Director of the Center for Women’s Leadership at the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government, Portland State University; former Chair of the Oregon Council for Civil Rights, and former Chair of the Oregon Commission for Women.
